The style of this hammer comes from Europe, it has a large amount of weight in the middle of the hammer, a blocky peen for effective spreading of the metal and a good radius on each edge to cut down on hammer marks. I make blacksmith’s forging hammers and also smaller versions with polished faces for jewelers, shown further down the page.
The carvings are done when the steel is hot and make for unique tools that are a joy to own and use. My own forging hammer and tongs were the prototypes for these tools and are in use every day.
The hammers shown are 2lb and 3lb cross peen hammers on to which are carved elfin eyes, mouth, nostrils and ears. Plain, uncarved hammers are also available.
