Carved hammer, process (with video)

I make forging hammers from 1045 steel and have been giving some of them faces for a few years now. The carving starts out with the hammerhead hot so that I can get nice deep chisel marks and then I finish up by chasing in the final details cold. Here’s a video of a heat where I’m using punches and chisels to make an eye and the nostrils:
