Eagle Ornamented Trade Axe

This axe is patterned after axes that were traded to the native Americans in the northeast of what is now the United States in the eighteenth century.

The ornament is of my own devising and depicts the head of an eagle on both sides of the axe.

Chased Spike Axe #375

The body of the axe is hand forged of mild steel with a high carbon bit and spike tip forge welded in.  The handle is of hickory with a linseed oil and beeswax finish that has been heated to melt the finish into the wood and to darken the color.

The handle is 17” long from the base of the axe head to the end.  The axe head is 7-3/4″ wide, the spike end is 3-1/2″ and the blade is 2-1/2″.
